| Rurouni Kenshin
Himura Kenshin was previously known as Battousai the Manslayer, the renowned and deadly assassin of the Ishin Shishi during the Japanese revolution of 1867-1868. After the revolution against the Tokugawa Shogunate, Kenshin has decided to atone for his past by becoming a wanderer, vowing never to kill another soul for the rest of his life and carrying a reverse blade sword in order to help others who need of his protection. About ten years into the new Meiji era, while in Tokyo, our wanderer comes upon a young woman, Kamiya Kaoru, in need of his assistance, which he gives willingly. Tired of his constant vagabond lifestyle, Kenshin finds himself staying at Kaoru's domicile. There he forms several friendships and finds himself having new adventures and tribulations in the effort to protect those he cares about.
The levels of sword fighting and martial arts in this anime series are outstanding. Himura Kenshin, being an assassin in his past, has dedicated his life to help people in need with his amazing reverse blade using the "Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu" sword skill. There's quite a bit of bloodshed going on in this anime, making it unsuitable for little kids to watch. But if you're somewhat older, you might see through the violence and really appreciate the sword fighting and the many beautiful Japanese sceneries. Combined with the traditional Japanese background music used, this series is a must see for lovers of this genre. |
