Sam Lombardo is a handsome high school guidance counsellor who's somewhat of a ladies' man. One of his students, Kelly Van Ryan, kind of likes him and tries to seduce him. Kelly is the daughter of one of the most powerful people in the community of Blue Bay, Sandra Van Ryan, with whom Sam had previously had an affair. Kelly gets him alone in his home, but runs out of the house crying and it becomes apparent that Sam has raped her. Their attorney, Tom Baxter, whose daughter Sam had also once dated, insists that Sam be thrown in jail, but detectives Ray Duquette and Gloria Perez suspect Kelly may not be telling the whole story. Sam, of course, denies the charges. Soon, Suzie Troller, a poor kid who is "trailer trash", says that Sam raped her as well. This puts the counsellor in big trouble and he has to go to trial to protest his innocence. His legal assistance is provided by ambulance chaser Ken Bowden. A surprise testimony creates a whole new ballgame for each character involved and Duquette and Perez have to try and figure out if there's more going on than meets the eye. From there on, it's a roller coaster ride of twists, turns and double-crosses, some totally predictable and others out of the blue.
